Good coordination and excellent reflexes are important qualities sought by baseball coaches, and it is essential that arm, shoulder and back muscles are in superior condition. If you have these qualities, you can use them to really make something of your life. A college scholarship opens up your world. Even if you never step on another baseball field after college, your education is a priceless reward for your perseverance both in the classroom and on the field.

While games comprised of balls and bats can be traced back more than 4,000 years to Egyptian shepherds, the modern game of baseball wasn't developed until 1839. This sport is said to be "as American as apple pie," but its popularity soon spread far beyond the boundaries of the U.S. The Olympic's first official exhibition baseball game was played in 1912. Over the years, single-game exhibitions appeared sporadically at the Olympics. Baseball was scheduled to become an official game at the 1940 Olympics in Tokyo, but the outbreak of World War II cancelled its debut. In 1984, eight teams vied for the gold in the first Olympic baseball exhibition tournament. Baseball was first included as an official Olympic sport in 1992, 80 years after the first exhibition game.
